Medicare Advantage and You

If you have Medicare Part A and Part B, you may consider a Medicare Advantage plan that is approved by Medicare. Medicare Advantage plans will provide all of your Part A (Hospital Insurance) and Part B (Medical coverage).

Medicare Advantage also offers extra coverage such as vision, hearing, dental, and many other other rich benefits. Most plans offer prescription drug coverage (Part D) as part of the plan. There are several Medicare Advantage plans to choose from with a $0 monthly premium.

Consider Your Options

The most common Medicare Advantage plans are PPO, HMO, HMO-POS, all of which are network-based and include prescription drug coverage (Part D). Comparing plans and benefits, and verifying that your doctors and providers are within the plan’s network can be confusing and overwhelming. Therefore, reviewing the available options is an essential step in choosing the right Medicare Advantage Plan for you. At Cole Insurance and Senior Solutions, we’ll guide you through the plans, answer your questions, and assist you in finding the plan that fits your individual needs and preferences, ensuring you’re confidently enrolled in the right plan.

How to Enroll in Medicare Advantage

You have the option to enroll in Medicare Advantage during the Initial Enrollment Period, which covers seven months: the three months before your 65th birthday, the month of your birthday, and the three months following your 65th birthday.

The Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) runs from October 15 to December 7. During this time, you have the flexibility to change Medicare Advantage Plan to another Medicare Advantage Plan, switch from Original Medicare to a Medicare Advantage Plan, Medicare Advantage to Original Medicare or change your Prescription Drug Plan (PDP) to another PDP Plan among other options that better suit your needs!

The Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period (OEP) extends from January 1 to March 31, providing another opportunity to change your MA and or PDP plans if needed.

Many individuals are unaware of several qualifying Special Enrollment Periods (SEP) available throughout the year for plan changes.

Special Needs Medicare Advantage

Medicare Special Needs Plans (SNPs) are a category of Medicare Advantage plans designed to deliver specialized care for individuals dealing with:

  • Chronic or disabling conditions ( severe health conditions)
  • Institutionalized (care facility)
  • Dual Special Needs (low income)

SNPs blend the advantages of original Medicare with prescription drug coverage and extend their offerings to include additional benefits like vision, hearing, or dental care.

These plans cater to individuals aged 65 and older, as well as those under age 65 with disabilities (individuals on Medicare Part A and B due to disability).

If you’re uncertain about your eligibility for a Special Needs Plan,  call Cole Insurance and Senior Solutions, we will answer your questions and provide guidance and assistance in identifying the most suitable SNP Plan that meets your needs.
